Learning is defined as a permanent change in one’s behavior as a result of an experience.  The behavior must be external and observable. 

Assumptions of learning:

-Learning is shown by an observable change in behavior

-Humans and animals typically learn in similar ways

-Learning processes can be defined as stimulus-response relationships

-Cognitive processes are excluded from scientific study

-If no observable behavior change happens, then no learning has happened

-The term, “conditioning” is often used in place of “learning”

Learning can be divided into two types:


Classical Conditioning                   Operant Conditioning
